Memorandum of Understanding signed between Global Media Group and the UN Global Compact
On October 9, 2024, Elnur Abdullayev, Chairman of the Board of Global Media Group, and Samir Mammadov, Country Manager of the UN Global Compact in Azerbaijan, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to the document, the respective organizations will implement joint activities to promote sustainable business practices and the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact within society.
Having recently joined the Global Compact as a member, Global Media Group has demonstrated its commitment to promoting responsible business principles in the fields of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and adhering to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Corporate Social Responsibility strategy of Global Media Group is also based on sustainable development values and responsible business practices. Within this strategy, the group of companies continues to implement a number of initiatives, including increasing energy efficiency, automating processes, reducing waste and cooperating with relevant organizations for its recycling, minimizing paper use through digitalization, ensuring a fair work environment, contributing to the social environment, and encouraging close cooperation by improving employee skills.
"Sustainability has become an indispensable priority in today’s global business world. As Global Media Group, we have committed to building our mission on sustainability principles. Our subsidiaries—Global Management outsourcing company, Report Information Agency, Baku TV television channel, and Oxu.Az news portal—hold international ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications, ranging from quality management to environmental protection, and from occupational health to safety.
Our participation in the UN Global Compact allows us to move forward in environmental responsibility and take confident steps in this direction. We aim to integrate sustainability principles into the strategy, operations, and culture of the Group and its constituent companies, and to manage processes more transparently. All these steps help the company play an active and responsible role in the field of sustainability and, as a result, create a positive impact from social, environmental, and economic perspectives. Thus, according to this memorandum, Global Media Group plans to cooperate in larger projects, not just by being a member of the Global Compact," stated Elnur Abdullayev, Chairman of the Board of Global Media Group.
"Today, media plays a crucial role in sustainable development by increasing awareness, shaping public opinion, and promoting accountability in environmental, social, and economic issues, thereby driving collective action towards a more sustainable future. Global Media Group’s commitment and partnership with the UN Global Compact is a significant turning point, not only for the sustainability of the company and its entities themselves but also for mobilizing the private sectors operating in Azerbaijan for the global future we aim to ensure," stated Samir Mammadov, Country Manager of the UN Global Compact in Azerbaijan.
The hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Azerbaijan and the declaration of 2024 as the "Year of Solidarity for a Green World" by President Ilham Aliyev’s decree dated December 25, 2023, show that this year will be a significant one for our country. Seeking to make greater contributions to international platforms in the field of sustainability, Global Media Group will continue to promote sustainability in the business world and strive for a "green" world.
