Global Media Group holds session on language of sustainable housing

Global Media Group organized a presentation and discussion session on "The Language of Sustainable Housing" on May 13, 2026, for employees of media companies within the group, jointly with the UN Global Compact, UN-Habitat and the UN office in Azerbaijan.
That the event, held ahead of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), aimed to provide media representatives with deeper knowledge of concepts, terminology and priorities related to sustainable and green living environments, the construction sector and urban planning.
Kanako Mabuchi, head of the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, spoke about the importance of the event and the role of the media in shaping public understanding of urban sustainability.
Anna Soave, head of UN-Habitat's country program in Azerbaijan, made a presentation on the essence of the concept of a "sustainable living environment" and the differences between the terms "green," "energy efficiency" and "sustainable construction."
Katja Schaefer, interregional adviser at UN-Habitat, spoke on topics related to energy efficiency, urban resilience, smart cities and the risks of greenwashing.
Samir Mammadov, country representative of the UN Global Compact in Azerbaijan, provided information about Azerbaijan's Built Environment Program and Decarbonization Commitment, explaining why businesses should invest in sustainability and the importance of sustainable construction as a factor of competitiveness.
At the end of the event, Laura Seyidbayova, head of Global Media Group's Marketing and Communications Department, said that giving sustainability issues a proper place on the media agenda is a key condition for forming the right public understanding.
She noted that such initiatives are of particular importance ahead of WUF13 and allow journalists to correctly present the global sustainability and urbanization agenda in the Azerbaijani context. Seyidbayova also assessed opportunities for continued cooperation between stakeholders in the media and sustainability sectors.
Global Media Group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN Global Compact on October 9, 2024. Under the document, the sides carry out joint activities to promote sustainable business practices and the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact in society.
The sustainable development of the media sector has been identified as one of the priority areas within Global Media Group's corporate social responsibility framework, and systematic programs are being consistently implemented in this field.
